Bulldogs fall
in district opener
The Bandera Bulldogs opened district play Friday, Jan. 16, with a narrow 75–71 loss to Fredericksburg, despite a hot shooting night and a commanding early lead.
Bandera jumped out quickly behind strong perimeter shooting, building a lead that reached 22 points during the first half.
The Bulldogs were especially effective from beyond the arc, finishing the game with a season-best 50 percent shooting from three-point range and converting 80 percent of their field goal attempts overall.
Fredericksburg responded in the second half by increasing its scoring efficiency and gradually cutting into the deficit.
The Billies took the lead late and held on for the one-point victory, handing Bandera its first district loss of the season.
James Bower led the Bulldogs with 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Anden DeGrote added 16 points, while Gavin Garcia finished with 15.
Jeffry Thomas paced the offense with nine assists.
Bandera’s freshman and junior varsity teams also competed in Fredericksburg, with both squads battling closely but coming up just short in their respective games.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back and secure their first district win when they travel to Wimberley on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
