Brick’s River Cafe, a longtime Bandera restaurant known for home-style comfort food and a loyal local following, has closed its doors after nearly two decades in business.
The Gibson family opened Brick’s River Cafe in April 2006, bringing classic dishes such as chicken-fried steak, homemade meatloaf and fried catfish with hushpuppies to the Hill Country community.
Over the years, the restaurant also became known for menu favorites like Jager schnitzel, chocolate icebox pie and its mason-jar sweet tea.
It’s last day of business was Sunday, Jan. 18.
In a Facebook message shared publicly following the restaurant’s final day of operation, the owners announced the difficult decision to close, expressing gratitude to the staff, customers and community that supported the business for almost 20 years.
The restaurant remained open for two weeks after notifying staff of the closure, a decision the owners said was intended to give employees time to seek other employment while still working and to allow customers one last opportunity to visit.
“We love our staff, we love our guests, and we love this community,” the statement read, thanking both local residents and out-of-town visitors who stopped in over the years.
The message included a lengthy acknowledgment of current and former staff members, highlighting the close-knit nature of the restaurant and its role as more than just a place to eat.
The owners said they would inform the public if circumstances changed but ultimately used the announcement to say goodbye, and thank you, to the community they served.
Editor’s Note: Former and present staff members of the Bulletin will miss the Bloody Mary’s they enjoyed at Brick’s.
