UIL students collect top finishes at Medina Valley Invitational

Bandera High School’s academics, speech and debate teams opened the spring season with a strong showing at the Medina Valley UIL Invitational, competing against 24 schools and earning multiple individual wand team honors.

In copy editing, Isabelle Smith placed first, Eva Le finished second, Abby Sizemore placed third, Sarah Le finished fifth, and Isabelle Smith also earned sixth.

Additional individual results included Sarah Le, second in copy editing and sixth in spelling; Eva Le, fourth in copy editing; Carter Rissmiller, fourth in current events and sixth in editorial writing; Ruffin Scartocci, third in editorial writing; Colton Rissmiller, third in social studies; Vanessa Perez, first in spelling and vocabulary; and Sydney McDaniel, fifth in prose and sixth in informative speaking. Bandera also earned top team honors, with Mrs. Jones’ journalism team finishing first in the journalism sweepstakes and Mrs. Frye’s team taking first in the spelling sweepstakes.

The teams are coached by Emily E. Huber, UIL coordinator and director of forensics and theatre at Bandera High School, along with Aidan Keane, Mrs. Frye and Mrs. Jones.

The Bulldogs will return to competition this weekend at a meet in Wimberley.
