The Bandera Lady Bulldogs soccer team split a pair of closely contested pre-district matches last week, earning a home victory before dropping a narrow road decision.
Bandera opened the week with a 2–1 win over Hondo on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in the Lady Bulldogs’ home opener.
Sophomore Jessa Haws put Bandera on the board in the 20th minute after winning a contested ball played in by Kaylee Fried.
After Hondo tied the match, the Lady Bulldogs regained the lead late in the second half when they were awarded a penalty kick following a handball in the box.
Maddie Garza converted the attempt to give Bandera the decisive goal.
The Lady Bulldogs’ defense held firm over the final 20 minutes to preserve the win, securing Bandera’s third victory of the season.
Bandera returned to action Friday, Jan. 16, on the road against Robert G. Cole. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 2–0 but continued to apply pressure throughout the match.
Haws scored her second goal of the week with three minutes remaining, finishing a free-kick assist from Garza to pull Bandera within one.
Despite the late surge, Bandera was unable to find the equalizer and fell 2–1.
The Lady Bulldogs will return home Tuesday, Jan. 20, to face Lockhart before traveling to Pleasanton on Friday.
