Abbott receives ‘Back the Blue’ award

DALLAS — Greg Abbott delivered remarks and received a “Back the Blue” Award during the Dallas Police Department Assist the Officer Foundation’s 32nd annual Cops’ Cop banquet Thursday night.

Abbott thanked law enforcement officers for their service and commitment to public safety, telling attendees that Texas communities depend on leaders who support the rule of law.

He said the state is safer because of the work officers do each day and pledged continued support for law enforcement efforts.

During his remarks, Abbott referenced legislation he signed during the most recent legislative session, including a bail reform package aimed at reducing repeat violent offenses.

The governor was joined by Assist the Officer Foundation chairman and Dallas Police Sgt. Ed Lujan, Dallas Police Officer James Parnell and other law enforcement leaders.

The event was emceed by Amelia Mugavero.

Following his remarks, Abbott was presented the “Back the Blue” Award in recognition of his support of the Dallas Police Department.
