One person was killed and another injured Saturday afternoon following a head-on collision on Wharton’s Dock Road, according to the Lakeshore Volunteer Fire Department.
“Sadly, one of the victims passed away,” Lakeshore VFD Chief Eric Fraser said. “Our hearts and prayers go out to all involved.”
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 3:20 p.m. Jan. 10 to the 3000 block of Wharton’s Dock Road for a two-vehicle crash. Fire, EMS and law enforcement units responded, with the roadway initially blocked as crews worked the scene.
Officials reported that one occupant was found unconscious and unresponsive and required extrication from a vehicle. A second patient was ambulatory at the scene.
Due to the severity of injuries, air medical transport was requested, and a landing zone was established near the Bandera EMS station before being relocated closer to the crash site.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including Bandera Fire Department, which provided manpower and landing zone support, and Bandera EMS, which deployed two ambulance crews, a supervisor and coordinated with medical flight personnel.
The air medical helicopter later departed the scene with a patient, and the roadway was reopened shortly after 4:50 p.m., though traffic remained congested.
Lakeshore VFD units were released from the scene, while the Texas Department of Public Safety remained to investigate the fatality.
Fraser emphasized that the department would not speculate on the cause of the crash and asked the public to be respectful of the families involved.
He also acknowledged the assistance of first responders and civilians who provided aid prior to emergency crews arriving.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
