Abbott appoints candidates to boards, commissions

Last week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced a series of appointments and reappointments to state boards and commissions, selecting candidates to serve in advisory and leadership roles on behalf of Texans.

Abbott appointed Col. Omar A. Perea to the Aerospace and Aviation Advisory Committee for a term expiring Sept. 1, 2027. The committee assists with the state’s economic development efforts to recruit and retain aerospace and aviation jobs and investments.

Amanda Crawford was appointed commissioner of insurance for a term set to expire Feb. 1, 2027.

On the Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force, Abbott reappointed Eduardo Contreras, Lisa Fullerton and Omar Veliz for terms expiring June 14, 2027. The task force advises state leadership on issues affecting small businesses and provides information to the public.

Abbott appointed Nelda Barrera, Colby McClendon and Scott Frazier to the Texas Agriculture Finance Authority for terms expiring Jan. 1, 2027, and appointed Zachary Davis, Justin Tucker and Tommy Henderson for terms expiring Jan. 1, 2028. The authority provides financial assistance to support the expansion and marketing of Texas agricultural products.

Kenny Marchant and Ajay Thomas were reappointed to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for terms expiring Jan. 1, 2031.

Abbott appointed Darryl Heath and Colt McCoy and reappointed Ashlie Thomas to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for terms expiring Aug. 31, 2031.

Jason LaFond was appointed to the Texas Pharmaceutical Initiative Governing Board for a term expiring Feb. 1, 2027. The board is tasked with developing a business plan to provide cost-effective drugs and medical supplies for the public employee sector.

Abbott also named Lemuel Williams Jr. as chair of the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board of Directors, appointed David Lewis and reappointed Valerie Vargas Cardenas to the board for terms expiring Feb. 1, 2031. The board oversees programs providing affordable housing for low-income Texans.
