LAMPASAS — Gov. Greg Abbott delivered remarks Friday at the newly established Post Oak Ridge State Park, emphasizing expanded access to public lands made possible through a voter-approved constitutional amendment.
Abbott thanked Texas voters for approving the measure that authorized the creation of the park and future state park acquisitions.
“I want to thank the voters for passing the constitutional amendment that allowed not just the creation of this park, but allows us to be able to create parks like this for many years going forward,” Abbott said. “It’s important that every family in our state and every child in our state is going to have access to more parks like this.”
The governor was joined by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Chairman Paul Foster, Sen. Charles Perry, Rep. Armando Walle, local officials and members of the Texas sporting community.
During his remarks, Abbott reflected on his childhood experiences in East Texas, including time spent as a Boy Scout exploring public lands, and said those experiences shaped his appreciation for conservation and outdoor stewardship.
Abbott also credited voters and the Legislature for the creation of the Centennial Parks Fund, a $1 billion fund established to support the acquisition and development of state parks across Texas.
The Centennial Parks Fund was approved by voters in 2023 through Proposition 14 and later funded by the Legislature. The fund is intended to expand access to outdoor recreation and preserve natural spaces statewide. Post Oak Ridge State Park is one of three properties acquired through the program.
Texas Parks and Wildlife officials said the park will provide additional recreational opportunities and contribute to long-term conservation efforts in Central Texas.
Additional details about park amenities and future development plans have not yet been announced.
