First Lady Abbott announces Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking

AUSTIN — Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott announced Monday that the Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation initiative will host its sixth annual Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking from Jan. 5 through Jan. 11.

The statewide, interfaith observance coincides with Human Trafficking Prevention Month and is intended to encourage faith-based communities and Texans statewide to unite in prayer, learn more about human trafficking, and consider ways to prevent exploitation and support survivors, according to the announcement.

“Nothing is stronger than Texans standing together through prayer and action,” Abbott said in a statement. “During this week of prayer, I encourage everyone to take a moment and join GRACE in its efforts to protect the vulnerable and stand against exploitation.”

The initiative is led by the Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation, known as Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation, which works with state agencies and community partners to combat human trafficking and support victims.

The week includes daily prayer intentions focused on prevention, awareness, victim recovery and justice.

Topics include exposing traffickers, recognizing warning signs in communities, supporting trauma-informed investigations, promoting healing for survivors, strengthening the justice system, and encouraging individuals to discern actions they can take to help prevent trafficking.

The announcement also highlighted educational resources and awareness efforts supported by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, including materials released as part of Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month.

GRACE officials said the Week of Prayer is intended to serve as both a spiritual observance and a call to action, urging Texans to engage with available resources and support efforts to end human trafficking across the state.
