Court of Criminal Appeals candidate eyes Bandera stop

Bandera County is expected to be among the stops on a statewide tour by Austin attorney Holly Taylor, who has filed as a candidate for judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and says she intends to visit all 254 Texas counties before the 2026 general election.

“We are especially excited about visiting Bandera County because my father grew up in Bandera,” Taylor told the Bulletin, adding she expects to visit the county in January or February.

Taylor filed as a candidate for judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 9, on Dec. 5 and will be unopposed in the March 3 Democratic primary.

Taylor has announced plans to visit all 254 Texas counties before the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, describing the effort as a statewide education and listening tour focused on the role of the courts and public concerns about the criminal justice system.

A press release from Taylor’s office noted she is seeking the seat during an election cycle that will include 10 statewide judicial races, including multiple positions on Texas’ two highest courts.

Taylor previously ran for presiding judge of the court in 2024 and received more than 4.5 million votes. She has served as a rules attorney for the Court of Criminal Appeals and has held multiple roles within the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. The campaign said Taylor will provide updates on her county visits through social media, her campaign website and an email newsletter, and that she is available for media interviews. Scheduling requests can be made through the campaign’s press contact, according to the release.
