Bandera County Judge, Clerk races draw multiple candidates for 2026 primary

Candidates have filed for the 2026 primary election on both sides of the aisle, with several contested Republican races shaping the local ballot in Bandera County.

The race for Bandera County judge includes Dennis Fitzgerald, Susan Junker and Kim Manglberger. Incumbent Richard Evans has announced he will not seek reelection.

Three candidates have filed for Bandera County district clerk: Alma Baker, Jessica Salinas and Paula (Maier) Swinney. Current District Clerk Tammy Kneuper is not seeking reelection.

The Bandera County Treasurer race features challenger Mickie Towers Carnes against incumbent Beverly Schmidt.

Phillip Shaffer has filed unopposed for Bandera County commissioner in Precinct 4. Incumbent Commissioner Jordan “Jody” Rutherford will not seek reelection.

In Precinct 2, incumbent County Commissioner Greg Grothues is running unopposed.

Several justice of the peace positions will also be uncontested.

Incumbents Mike Towers (Pct. 1), Gina Grothues (Pct. 2) and Nell Hardin (Pct. 4) have all filed without opposition. In Precinct 3, Charly Seale is running unopposed following the decision by incumbent Randy Boysen not to seek reelection.

Another uncontested race includes Bandera County Clerk, where Tandie Mansfield has filed unopposed.

On the Democratic side, several candidates have filed unopposed for party leadership positions.

David Black is running for county chair.

Candidates for precinct chair include Brenda Schmidt in Precinct 102, Robert D. Rios in Precinct 203, Jeffrey Newton in Precinct 204, Essie Stewart in Precinct 305, Richard E. Redmond Sr. in Precinct 306, Patti Pyle in Precinct 407, Linda R. Moore in Precinct 408 and Margaret Schneider in Precinct 409.

The first day for voters to apply for a mail-in ballot will be January 1, 2026.

The deadline to register to vote for the March 3 primary election is February 2, 2026.

Early voting by personal appearance begins on February 17, 2026, and ends on February 27, 2026, with Election Day scheduled for March 3, 2026.
