We’re Not Dozing Off

For the political junkies among us, the actions of this Trump administration have not only blocked having any semblance of normality but have put all of us at full risk of serious overdose.

However, it appears possible, even likely, that the overdose risk is rapidly spreading among the public at large. Notwithstanding the demonstrations protesting Trump, we are seeing signs that Congressional Republicans are noticing and contemplating more opposition to Trump than wrinkled brows and backroom whining.

It appears that electing an a-hole for a President is losing its appeal. Many people apparently liked the idea of crass toughness and felt that would mean strong leadership to their benefit. A resulting acceptance by his supporters of vulgarity and crudeness and even bold-faced lying has allowed the President a tremendous amount of slack. But this acceptance is waning and getting seriously old for more and more Americans.

We can perhaps pinpoint the lies associated with the Epstein files as a major momentum builder toward the rapid plunge in Trump’s popularity. Many voters were motivated to get to the bottom of the pedophile ring and expose the nasty rich and powerful guys involved. To see this interest, almost obsession, fueled by Trump himself being stonewalled shocked many awake.

Then there is the practical side of our lives that is waking many up. The affordability issue, aka “Democratic hoax” per Trump, has not only gone unaddressed but is noticeably getting worse. Affordability has been noted many times as a prime concern of Trump supporting voters in the past election. What they now are seeing is another campaign promise exposed as a lie.

When we add the Gestapo- like tactics within our communities harming so many innocents in order to address the “immigration crisis,” we see these actions are not only noticed but also motivating many everyday people to be active to prevent such brutal and mean-spirited actions.

The list troubling many Americans can go on including such things as the extra-jurisdictional murders of people on boats traversing the less than 7 miles of sea between Venezuela and Trinidad, the over the top enrichment of the Trump organization and their friends, pardoning a convicted narcotics trafficker and several other criminals, providing $20 billion to bolster Argentina’s Trump-like bully, etc. The point is that we appear to be reaching a point of no return regarding Trump and his cronies favorability among more and more people.

The breakup between Trump and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green has seen the sharpened knives coming out between them which were formerly reserved for Democrats (or immigrants, or gender non-conforming people, or anyone that challenges a statement by Trump and his underlings.)

This blowup has shocked many as Green strongly stood by her great concern for the Epstein sex victims and the inability of Republicans to address the pending skyrocketing health insurance costs. These actions fully refuted Trump’s Epstein stonewalling and lack of action on health care. The fury Trump unleashed against what may have been his previous strongest ally has demonstrated to all, even his supporters, that his nasty vindictiveness knows no bounds.

This breakup has also highlighted the unease within MAGA as Trump has shown a priority to engage in foreign entanglements rather than what he campaigned on which was to better everyday Americans at home. This has been stressed by Congresswoman Green and others as forsaking the “America First” agenda.

As Americans watch a President that prioritizes gaudy remodeling at the White House and childlike basking in over the top awards and praise of himself, many questions are circling about his mental state. There is no question that he can still bark loudly, post social media rants late into the night, and definitely talk tough. But we now also see him stooped and dozing in and out at meetings with the media in attendance. When we add in so many incoherent or weird word salads, the haunting memory of another aged leader, former President Biden, (aka “sleepy Joe” by Trump) is now seen coming full circle to Trump.

Whether this awareness continues to grow among his former supporters, one thing is certain those who opposed Trump from the outset are more than awake and ready to work even harder to curtail this madness - and definitely welcome those that have recently awakened.
