Lakehills library hosts successful fundraiser

The Lakehills Area Library raised more than $6,700 through a recent partnership with Bandera Jewelers, library officials said.

Bandera Jewelers hosted the library’s first Gold Rush fundraising event on Dec. 8, setting up at the library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to appraise and purchase gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals.

Community members were invited to bring in unwanted or broken jewelry, serving ware and other items to have them evaluated and, if they chose, sold.

Participants were paid in cash or by check at what library officials described as fair market prices.

Sellers also had the option to donate a portion of their proceeds to the library as a tax-deductible contribution.

More than $1,000 was donated directly to the library by participants during the event.

In addition, Bandera Jewelers donated 50 percent of its profits from the Gold Rush event and from sales at its Bandera location the following day, resulting in a total contribution of $6,701.28 to the library.

“This donation will help the library to pay for operating needs such as utilities, maintenance and supplies,” said Dianna Landes, director of the Lakehills Area Library.

Library officials said the fundraiser allowed community members to sell items they no longer wanted while providing much-needed financial support for library operations.

Due to the event’s success, the library plans to host the Gold Rush fundraiser on a quarterly basis.

The next event is scheduled for March 23, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lakehills Area Library.

The library is also preparing for its annual fundraiser dinner and auction, scheduled for Feb. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lakehills Community Center.

Businesses interested in donating items for the auction to support the library are encouraged to contact the library at 830-510-2777.
