The Bandera Bulldogs varsity basketball team posted a 3-1 record at the San Antonio Cole tournament last week, finishing just short of a championship game appearance after a competitive two-day run.

Bandera opened tournament play Thursday with a 57-44 victory over Lytle. Jeffry Thomas led the Bulldogs with 19 points, while Cooper Franklin recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

Later that day, Bandera edged 5A Burbank 72-69 in a high-scoring contest. James Bower scored a game-high 30 points and added eight rebounds.

Franklin finished with a season-high 13 points, and Thomas contributed 12 points in the win.

The Bulldogs returned to the court Friday morning with a 68-63 win over Santa Gertrudis Academy.

Bower and Thomas led the scoring with 21 and 16 points, respectively, while Anden Tenis De Grote added 12 points in the victory.

Bandera’s tournament run ended with a 73-63 loss to Crystal City. Despite the setback, several Bulldogs turned in strong performances.

Bower finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Gavin Garcia recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Thomas also posted a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action Tuesday with a road game at Uvalde before competing in the Comfort Tournament later in the week.
