Gov. Greg Abbott on Dec. 8 highlighted the role of TPUSA’s Club America chapters on Texas high school campuses, calling for increased student participation and warning schools against blocking the organization’s activities.
In remarks released by his office, Abbott said the current political climate has created a heightened need for groups like Turning Point USA and its high school affiliate.
“There has been no moment in time during the course of this century when there was such an urgency and a need for an organization like TPUSA and Club America,” Abbott said in the release.
He credited the organizations with promoting “moral clarity, constitutional principles, and our founding values” and praised student members as “the future leaders of the Lone Star State.”
Abbott was joined at the event by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, TPUSA Senior Director Josh Thifault, Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath, and other state and local officials, according to the release.
During his remarks, Abbott also recognized the life and legacy of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, saying his work helped strengthen the conservative movement and expand youth involvement nationwide.
Abbott noted that Texas currently has more Club America chapters than any other state and said the state would foster an environment for the organization to continue growing.
Abbott further stated that schools that attempt to prevent Club America programs from operating on campus should be reported to the Texas Education Agency.
According to the release, Abbott said such reports would prompt an investigation by the agency and could result in disciplinary action if violations are found.
