Nagel clinic expanding services

The Arthur Nagel Community Clinic will expand its no-cost health care services to underserved rural communities in neighboring counties, with the new service areas becoming active Tuesday, Jan. 6, when the clinic reopens for the new year.

Clinic officials said the expansion follows strategic planning discussions last spring, during which the clinic’s board of directors identified gaps in access to nonprofit community clinic care across rural regions.

Those discussions noted that, in several areas, the Nagel Clinic is geographically closer and more accessible than other nonprofit providers located in county seats.

The expanded planned service areas include communities in Medina, Uvalde, Real, Kerr and Kendall counties, where residents often face long drives for medical care despite living near the Bandera County line.

For example, Utopia in Uvalde County is closer to Bandera than to Uvalde; and Camp Verde and Comfort in Kerr and Kendall County can be more efficiently served by the clinic.

Portions of northern Medina County also fall within the clinic’s accessible range.

“This thoughtful expansion reflects our mission— to provide no-cost, compassionate health care to those in need, wherever the need is greatest and most accessible,” said Mike Mulherin, president of the clinic’s board of directors.

For more information, residents may call the clinic at 830-796-3448 or download a patient application from nagelclinic.org.
