Young players and seasoned competitors gathered at the Medina Community Library Monday, Nov. 24, for a chess tournament.
Library director Allison Speaks-Harbour told the Bulletin the event highlighted both skill and sportsmanship.
In the youth division, Isaac Carlson earned first place, followed by Tripp Taylor in second.
Isiah Sanders and Duval Taylor tied for third.
Volunteer George Angelos, who also serves as the library’s chess coordinator, assisted with the event.
“The young competitors showed strong focus throughout the matches and displayed good sportsmanship,” said Harbour.
In the adult division, James Commack claimed first place.
Darryl Sadler and Bob Davis tied for second, while Michael Simons and Thad Emmons tied for third.
Adult and youth winners were recognized with certificates from the library, which hosts the tournament each year to help foster interest in strategy games and community activities.

Adult competitors concentrate during the annual chess tournament at the Bandera County Library on Nov. 24.
