Bulldog boys open basketball season

The Bandera High School boys basketball program officially tipped off the 2025-26 season last Tuesday night against the Fox Tech Buffaloes at the Alamo Convocation Center, with both the junior varsity and varsity squads showcasing Bulldog hustle and determination.

The junior varsity team fought hard to keep the game close, fueled by a dominant effort on the boards. Cooper Cale controlled the glass with more than 10 rebounds, giving the Bulldogs valuable second-chance scoring opportunities.

Offensively, Chris Martinez led all scorers with 13 points. Cale added five points, and De La Paz contributed four points while effectively facilitating ball movement and keeping the offense flowing.

On the varsity side, Bandera delivered a nail-biting performance that came down to the final seconds.

The Bulldogs fell just short, losing 49-51, but demonstrated resilience and teamwork that set a competitive tone for the season. James Bower led the Bulldogs with 16 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Anden Tenis De Grote and Logan Pierce each added eight points.

Cooper Franklin anchored the defense, hauling in nine rebounds and helping to keep the game within reach until the final buzzer.

The season opener highlighted the Bulldogs’ depth and determination at both levels, with contributions from multiple players and strong defensive efforts.

Despite the close loss, the team looks to build momentum and rebound quickly.
