Gov. Greg Abbott joined state and local officials in Kerrville on Saturday, Nov. 15, to serve lunch and thank volunteers who helped rebuild the Dietert Center after devastating flooding damaged the area’s only senior community center in July.

Abbott was accompanied by Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, Rep. Wes Virdell, Dietert Center Executive Director Brenda Thompson, Hunt. Fish. Feed. Marketing Director Dave Munroe and Spectrum Communications Vice President of Government Affairs Ned Munoz. Together, they partnered with Hunt. Fish. Feed. and Spectrum to serve meals at a volunteer appreciation luncheon.

“You are the heart and soul of the community,” Abbott told attendees. “Whether you live here, work here, or eat here, you depend on the people here. This is your home, and we all have a collective goal: to ensure you are safe and secure permanently in your home right here in Kerr County.”

The Governor praised the volunteers for their role in restoring the Dietert Center and said Texas is “rebuilding stronger than ever” because of local efforts following the historic flooding.

He emphasized the state will continue supporting recovery and rebuilding operations for communities affected by the July storms.

Abbott also thanked Hunt. Fish. Feed. and Spectrum for providing food and ongoing assistance throughout the recovery process.
