The Museum of Western Art (MoWA) in Kerrville has received its second national award this year, with True West magazine bestowing the honor of “Best Permanent Collection” for 2026.
The recognition follows the museum’s earlier win this year of the magazine’s “No. 1 Western Art Museum in the U.S.” title.
True West magazine, the premier publication focusing on the Old West, recognized the Kerrville-based museum for the overall quality and significance of its collection.
“The Best Western Art Collection for 2026 recognition highlights museums with outstanding collections of Western art and celebrates the overall quality and significance of the collections,” said Jana Earp, regional director for the magazine.
Darrell Beauchamp, executive director of MoWA, expressed his gratitude for the back-to-back honors.
“The award for 2026 has great significance because our permanent collection of paintings and sculptures includes works by some of the top Western artists in the genre, dating back two hundred years,” Beauchamp said. He highlighted the “treasures by highly esteemed talents” that were donated by the L.D. Brinkman Foundation.
In addition to its permanent holdings, MoWA hosts special rotating exhibits. The dual exhibition, “The New American West by Brush and by Bronze,” featuring works by painter Kathleen Frank and sculptor Mark Yale Harris, opened Saturday, Nov. 15.
“Our visitors come to view our permanent collection, which we rotate throughout the year, but they also enjoy seeing the works of contemporary Western artists,” Beauchamp said. “Every eight weeks or so, we bring in other artists from around the country.”
The public is invited to attend the opening-night reception for special exhibits by RSVPing on the museum’s website.
The Museum of Western Art is located at 1550 Bandera Highway in Kerrville. For more information, visit museumofwesternart. com or call 830-896-2553.
