Living In Trumpland

We’re not living in America anymore. We’re living in Trumpland under Donald Trump’s rule, being hit with news every week that shocks us to the core.

Last week, Trump tore down the East Wing of the White House to build a huge ballroom. It will dwarf what’s left of the White House. It will no doubt be named for Trump. And its size will show his dominance over us.

Trump ordered the East Wing’s destruction on his own, in spite of opposition from “historical preservation groups” and no sign-off from the National Capital Planning Commission, the executive branch that has jurisdiction over construction and major renovations to government buildings in the region.

Our History

The U.S. Constitution gave equal power to 3 branches of government - the presidency, the Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court - to avoid a takeover by one branch. But the U.S. Supreme Court changed that. It gave Donald Trump immunity from prosecution when carrying out official acts.

That makes the presidency more powerful than the other 2 branches of government. In effect, the Supreme Court overturned the American Revolution. In 1776, there were 27 reasons for the American Revolution against King George III. Colonists called him a tyrant, ruling over them like a dictator.

Each of the 27 reasons has plausible explanations.

Founder of the Day is a website with a “one-after-the-other list” of the reasons. Some are clearly what we see today under Donald Trump.

King George:

• #2) “… closed down the colonial government.”

• #5) “…shrugged off legitimate complaints.”

• #11) “… “gave dictatorial powers to Generals that used the military to suppress cities.

• #12) “…filled the streets with a police force whose procedures they had no control over.”

• #15) “When these soldiers committed crimes, they were protected from punishment.”

• #16) “The King and Parliament cut off trade with the rest of the world.”

• #17) “They implemented taxation without representation.”

• #21) They “…took away charters which created the colonies, ending the long tradition of colonists controlling their own affairs.”

Trump’s Government Shutdown #17) – Does the shutdown seem like taxation without representation that favors the rich? On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the shutdown became the 2nd longest in U.S. history because Democrats won’t OK big cuts in funds for the health care of 4.7 million people to pay for tax cuts for millionaires in Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” that Republicans want Democrats to approve. Trump is a multi-billionaire.

Freedom

#5 - The King “…shrugged off legitimate complaints.” Attacking freedom – individual freedom, freedom of speech and freedom of the press - is the basic way authoritarian regimes silence dissent. It’s in the lawsuits Donald Trump has filed against the news media and hurting people who criticize him. Getting Jimmy Kimmel taken off the air is a prime example of Trump violating an American citizen’s right to free speech.

Control of all media is a main Trump objective. In September, he threatened to revoke the licenses of TV networks if “their-on-air talent is critical of him.”

Under pressure, The Washington Post killed an endorsement of Kamala Harris before the 2024 election and its owner, Jeff Bezos, donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration. ABC News, owned by Disney, settled a Trump lawsuit by paying $15 million to resolve it.

As far as individual freedoms go under Trump’s Republican rule, we should add banning abortion, crippling the Voting Rights Act to keep Blacks from voting and attacking LGBTQ rights and American universities.

#12 and #15 - ICE makes violent and unwarranted arrests of immigrants. When ICE hurts people or violates any laws, none of its “soldiers” are punished. Trump claimed only the dangerous “worst of the worst” immigrants were being deported. As of September 26, 2025, immigrants with no criminal record are now the largest group in ICE detention. Trump’s deployment of ICE, police departments and the military, creates a “national paramilitary policing force” he can use to protect his power.

Tariffs

#16) - In cutting off worldwide trade, Trump’s tariffs hit low-income Americans hard in 2 ways: They increase prices and decrease incomes. When tariffs push up prices forgroceries and daily necessities, low-income families have to spend more of the few dollars they make to buy them. In September, CNN reported Trump’s tariffs could push nearly 1 million more Americans into poverty. At the end of last year, “nearly 36 million people” in the United States were already poverty stricken.

Parallels between the reasons for the American Revolution and what we face today can’t be ignored if we want to remain free.

We must stand up for our rights like our founders did in 1776.

And…. oh yeah…get access to the Epstein files.
