Bandera County 4-H members came together Saturday, Oct. 11, for One Day 4-H, a statewide day of service where youth across Texas dedicate time to giving back to their communities.
This year, Bandera County youth made a meaningful impact by helping a local resident in need, cleaning up and restoring their yard.
The project was organized by the Pipe Creek Lakehills 4-H Club and Don’t Make Waste Bandera, which identified a community member unable to maintain their yard due to health or personal challenges.
4-H members spent the day raking leaves, trimming overgrown plants, removing debris, and beautifying the space to restore dignity and comfort to the homeowner.
Kara Spangler, County 4-H and Youth Program Coordinator, said, “This is what 4-H is all about—service, compassion, and leadership. Our youth saw a need and responded with heart and hard work. It was a powerful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”
Launched in 2009, the One Day 4-H initiative encourages clubs across Texas to participate in community service projects on the same day each October.
Bandera County’s contribution this year fell under the “Hands-on Service” category, one of five recognized by Texas 4-H.
Photos from the event showed smiling youth working together with rakes and wheelbarrows, proud of the transformation they achieved.
The project not only helped a neighbor in need but also strengthened bonds between 4-H members and their community.
