Human remains were discovered off Wharton’s Dock Road Friday evening after a phone call came through Bandera County dispatch, according to Sheriff Josh Tietge.
Deputies responded to the area around 6 p.m. on Oct. 17 after receiving the report of suspected human remains.
Tietge said deputies confirmed the discovery upon arrival and notified the Criminal Investigations Division and Texas Rangers, who joined the initial investigation.
The sheriff said skeletal remains and multiple pieces of evidence were recovered from the scene and will be sent for forensic processing and identification.
“Evidence is going to a few separate locations,” Tietge said. “We are working with multiple labs for a series of different tests — anthropology, DNA and so on.”
The scene was cleared around 8 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
Tietge said the investigation is ongoing but emphasized there is no threat to the community or residents in the area.
He added the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office is committed to transparency and will provide updates as they become available.
