BEC donates $10,000 to Hill Country CASA

The BEC Foundation recently donated $10,000 to Hill Country CASA, an organization that provides Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers to represent the best interests of children in foster care.

The donation will support Hill Country CASA’s Christmas Gift and Direct Assistance Funds, which benefit children and families in Bandera, Kerr, Kendall and Gillespie counties.

“We are so thankful for the support from BEC Foundation,” said Amy Harding, outreach director for Hill Country CASA. “It’s because of the continued generosity of our community and supporters like BEC Foundation that Hill Country CASA can do the work we do advocating for children in foster care and their families.”

CASA volunteers are trained community members appointed by judges to advocate for children or sibling groups in the foster care system. They work with parents, foster families, teachers, doctors and others involved in the child’s life to ensure the child’s needs are met and their voices are heard in court and other settings.

When possible, CASA volunteers advocate for reunification with parents. If that is not an option, they may recommend placement with relatives, family friends or adoptive homes.

“We are always in need of donations to support our work, as well as more CASA volunteers to serve children and families in our community,” Harding said. “There is no other volunteer experience like being a CASA volunteer.”
