Frontier Times unveils new marker

The Frontier Times Museum unveiled a new Texas Historical Marker on Thursday, Oct. 2, replacing the plaque that had stood at the museum’s entrance since 1968.

The Bandera County Historical Commission partnered with the museum on the project, which was funded by Kirk and Patricia McMullan. The updated marker corrects inaccuracies on the original version, according to museum officials.

The ceremony also recognized the restoration of the museum’s totem pole, originally carved in 1947 by retired British Royal Naval Commander G. Keith Gordon. Local artist Logan Miles completed the restoration in 2023.

“Our new Historical Marker now stands in place by the museum’s front door, and it’s a testament to the history of our 92-year-old museum,” said Kimberly Miles, chairperson of the Bandera County Historical Commission. “A special thank you goes out to the McMullan family for their generous donation, which has allowed us to enhance our historic site and restore our totem pole to its original colors.”

The event included remarks from community leaders and a public unveiling on the museum’s front grounds, followed by refreshments inside the building.

The Frontier Times Museum is located at 510 13th St. in Bandera.
