The Bandera Bulldogs extended their unbeaten start to the season with a decisive 56-0 victory over the Cole Cougars on Friday night, their second shutout of the year.
The game also honored local veterans, with the student section dressed in red, white, and blue in a show of school spirit and patriotism.
Head Coach Joel Fontenot- Amadee credited the team’s preparation for the performance.
“We focus on us and our process. We are a one day at a time football team,” he said. “You can’t be Friday good on Monday, but hopefully by Friday the preparation adds up and we have won enough individual plays and days to be Friday ready on Friday night.”
That preparation was evident on the opening snap, when quarterback Dalton Parks threw a screen pass to Jeffry Thomas, who raced 70 yards for a touchdown. Parks went on to account for five total touchdowns, throwing for four and rushing for another.
The Bulldogs spread the ball across the roster, with seven players targeted in the passing game and six recording catches.
Six different players scored, including Thomas, Juan Cabrera with two rushing touchdowns, Breydan Gherman on an 85-yard reception, and Jaymin Klein on a 20-yard catch.
“Play for each other and the ‘B’ on your chest,” Fontenot- Amadee said. “If you’re someone who plays a lot, the guys who don’t get to but practice their tails off deserve to play too. Finish off your time well so they can shine.”
Bandera’s defense matched the offensive effort, forcing turnovers and closing out the game with a 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jonah Klein.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2023, with a chance to reach 5-0 for the first time since 2019. They travel to Hondo on Sept. 26 to face the Owls.
“We are a process-driven football team and program,” Fontenot-Amadee said. “Friday is going to be a blast. Beautiful Berry Field is a place our kids are familiar with, and they will be excited to go back there. Throw the records out — it’s gonna be a slobber knocker.”
