DAR chapter honored during Constitution Week proclamation

Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring Jr. presented a proclamation Sept. 10 designating Sept. 17–23 as Constitution Week in Kerrville, recognizing the work of the Major James Kerr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Chapter Regent Dawn Collum accepted the proclamation alongside members Nancy Foster, Stacey Cannon, Gina Ireland and Lisa Williams.

Constitution Week is celebrated nationwide each year during the week of Sept. 17, marking the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

The observance was established in 1956 following efforts by the DAR to promote education and awareness about the Constitution.

The Major James Kerr Chapter begins a new year of programming this month, following a year of community service projects focused on patriotism, education and historic preservation.

The chapter welcomes new members interested in volunteer opportunities.

Foundedin1890,theDAR has more than 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and abroad.

Membership is open to women age 18 and older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.

The organization supports historic preservation, education and patriotism through scholarships, citizenship programs, service to veterans and community projects.
