The week of Sept. 8–12 proved to be a winning one for the Bobcats and Lady Cats of Medina ISD.
The junior high Lady Cats opened the week Sept. 8 with their first win of the season, defeating Utopia.
After splitting the first two sets, Medina closed strong with a 15-3 victory in the decisive third.
In high school volleyball, the Lady Cats went 2-0, defeating San Antonio’s KIPP Somos Academy and Brackettville. The Brackettville match went five sets in a back-and-forth battle.
New head coach Chyna Phillips praised her team’s resilience.
“We did great. We relied on everyone and everyone worked,” Phillips said. “We had some tough sets, but overall so good.”
On the football field, the Bobcats improved to 3-0 with an 87-37 victory over Incarnate Word Academy of Corpus Christi.
The game, played before the home crowd, was also chosen as the Hill Country Nation “Game of the Week.”
Incarnate Word struck first, but Medina responded with defensive stops and touchdowns to pull away.
“For us it’s a team effort. We feel good about the team effort tonight,” head coach Mark Coley said.
Junior quarterback Davis Peterson was named Hill Country Nation’s “Player of the Game.”
