The Lakehills United Methodist Church Jac Pack team will host its annual suicide prevention walk on Saturday, Sept. 13, to benefit StopSoldierSuicide.org.
According to the Veterans Administration, soldiers are nearly nine times more likely to die by suicide than in combat. In 2022, 582 Texas veterans died by suicide.
Organizers said the event is designed to help raise awareness and support for veterans in need.
Physical registration begins at 7 a.m. at 150 Avenue J in Lakehills. The approximately 2-mile walk will start at 8 a.m. from the church parking lot and follows a looped route.
Participants will receive a swag bag of goodies, and the first 20 to register will receive a free T-shirt. Medals will also be awarded to participants.
After the walk, attendees are invited to join the church Mission Hall for snacks and drinks.
Guest speaker Mike Oates, from Together With Hill Country Veterans, will address the crowd at 9 a.m.
Organizers said 100% of proceeds will benefit Stop-SoldierSuicide.org. A suggested donation is $20.
