The Bandera High School speech and debate team announced its first National Academic All American recipient, 2025 graduate Micah McCreary.
McCreary was a three-year varsity member of the team, competing in Congressional Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Extemporaneous Speaking.
He advanced to UIL Regionals in all of his events and competed at the National Speech and Debate Association’s national tournaments in Extemporaneous Debate in 2023, Extemporaneous Speaking in 2024 and Lincoln-Douglas Debate in 2025.
According to the National Speech and Debate Association, the Academic All American award recognizes high school students who have earned the degree of Superior Distinction, which requires at least 750 points; completed at least five semesters of high school; demonstrated outstanding character and leadership; and maintained a grade-point average of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.
McCreary earned 852 points during his career, qualifying for the Superior Distinction designation.
He is the highest point-earner in Bandera High School speech and debate history and the school’s first Academic All American.
He will attend the University of Arizona in the fall.
