The First Friday Sip and Shop on the grounds of the Texas Salt Co. was a success despite uncooperative weather.

On Friday, Aug. 1, just after the vendors’ market opened, a brief thunderstorm soaked the area. Andrew Almand of the Texas Salt Co. noted that the rain passed quickly, cooling temperatures but leaving behind a muggy atmosphere.

The following Saturday, the weather was sunny, but additional thunderstorms passed through to wet down Bandera.

The eight vendors — two food vendors and six others — attracted customers with their unique, handcrafted items. Many shoppers made their way one block off Main Street to visit the market.

As customers strolled the grounds, they perused craft items displayed under tents. By chatting with vendors, shoppers learned more about the treasures for sale.

Veronica, from the Blue Monkey Cups booth, noted that this was her first time participating in the market but said she was doing well. She also visited all the booths to examine their offerings.

A large display of fishing shirts was one of the market highlights. After browsing, most shoppers made their final stop at the Texas Salt Co., housed in the historic building on Cypress Street at 11th Street.

The Texas Salt Co. carries an extensive line of smoked salt and peppers, bread dips and smoked paprika. The rooms hold many fascinating items suitable for gifts or personal use.

Many shoppers noted that Texas Salt Co. products sent as gifts are especially popular with out-ofstate friends and family.

The First Friday Sip and Shop is held monthly and extends merchant hours until 8 p.m. For more information, visit texassaltco.com.
