Horse owners team with city employees to clean park debris

Horse owners team with city employees to clean park debris

Though Bandera was spared the extreme destruction that devastated Kerrville on July 4, the Medina River did flood out of its banks and left behind enough debris that the equestrian trails in the city park were closed for safety reasons.

Since Bandera is proud of its title as the Cowboy Capital of the World, a group of horse owners who enjoy riding in the park got together with Parks Director Terry Wells and his crew to make the trails available to the riding public again.

Trash bags, rakes, chain saws and tractors helped the park employees and volunteers remove some serious debris and obstacles, and the trail was returned to its previous wellkept state.

Volunteers from Bandera’s horse community included Roxane and Shane Yoder, Todd Overton, Linda Lazo, Debra Slate, Tony Soupley, Tawni Solise, Harriet Stewart and Tom Lamonica.

Thanks go to all involved.

Members of the public are always excited to see horses anywhere in Bandera, whether they see them from a distance or they actually get up close and visit with horse and owner.

Just like its live music scene, Bandera’s equestrian identity is part of what sets it apart from many other quaint small towns that tend to have a more predictable ambience.

A healthy and cooperative relationship between the City of Bandera and our many horse owners is definitely a winning combination for all involved.

If you haven’t yet enjoyed the equestrian trails in our city park, now’s the time to saddle up!
