Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Tuesday announced the formation of the Senate Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding, a panel tasked with addressing Texas’ response to natural disasters and developing long-term solutions for flood mitigation.
Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, will chair the committee. Sen. Pete Flores, R-Pleasanton, was named vice chair.
Other members include Sens. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston; César Blanco, D-El Paso; Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels; Adam Hinojosa, R-Corpus Christi; Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham; José Menéndez, D-San Antonio; and Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown.
The committee will hold its first hearing at the Capitol in Austin on July 23. A second hearing is scheduled for July 31 in Kerrville to give Hill Country residents an opportunity to share concerns and experiences related to disaster response and flooding.
