Fundraiser to benefit victims impacted by floods

A grassroots fundraiser to benefit families devastated by recent flooding in the Hill Country is set for Saturday, July 20, from noon to 7 p.m. at Gravity Check Saloon & Arena, located at 3977 Hwy 173 in Kerrville.

Organized in just one week by local resident Scotty Kaufmann, the event — called “Hill Country Strong” — aims to support families in Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville and Center Point.

Kaufmann said he has already personally handed out $8,500 to five families and hopes this fundraiser will allow him to help more.

“I will personally distribute every dollar raised to families affected by the flood,” Kaufmann said.

Hosted by the nonprofit Ride & Rise Above, a 501(c) (3) organization, the event will feature raffles, a live auction beginning at 1:30 p.m., and $20 suggested door donations.

Entry includes a $15 thickcut pork chop plate with beans and tater salad, donated by Scotty Schmerber.

Live music from a Journey tribute band will close the event from 5 to 7 p.m.

Organizers are still in urgent need of auction item donations.

For more information or to donate items, text Scotty Kaufmann at 847-942-7543.
