Restoration projects are now underway at two of the region’s most cherished historic sites, thanks to ongoing community support and fundraising efforts by the Polly Texas Pioneer Association.
During last month’s Hill Country Homecoming, association members outlined a number of improvement plans for Polly’s Schoolhouse and Polly’s Chapel. As of this month, contracts have been awarded and the first phase of work has begun.
At Polly’s Schoolhouse, Clifford Watts of Medina, Texas, was awarded the contract for removing and installing new steel fencing surrounding the property.
In addition, HDZ Metal Tech of San Antonio has been hired to fabricate a new steel entry gate.
Over at Polly’s Chapel, new furnishings are on the way, thanks in large part to the work of board member Rhonda Phillips, who chairs the association’s Prayer Garden & Furniture Committee.
Concrete benches from Nicholas Gonzalez of Rio Hondo, Texas, will soon be installed in the Prayer Garden and near the chapel entrance.
“These upgrades are possible because of generous support from our community and our annual fundraiser,” association leaders said in a statement.
