Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation announced Monday they are committing up to $500,000 in cash and inkind support for communities impacted by the recent catastrophic flooding across South Texas.
The relief includes direct grants, essential supplies, and up to a $250,000 match for customer and member donations made in stores, clubs and online in partnership with The Salvation Army.
In a press release dated July 7, Walmart said it has already begun working with nonprofit organizations to deliver aid, including food, water and basic necessities. At the Walmart Supercenter in Kerrville, Operation BBQ Relief began distributing free hot meals Monday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, mobile laundry trucks from Tide Loads of Hope and showers provided by Matthew 25: Ministries, Procter & Gamble and Walmart are being deployed to the region.
“We are heartbroken by the devastation our associates, friends and neighbors in Texas are facing, especially the families of those who have lost loved ones,” said John Furner, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. “We’re working hand-in-hand with local leaders and first responders to ensure help reaches those who need it most.”
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are also funding national partners including the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army to assist in regional relief operations with food, water and other emergency supplies.
“Our hearts go out to the families, associates and members affected by this disaster,” said Chris Nicholas, president and CEO of Sam’s Club. “We will stand by the Kerrville community and help provide the resources and support they need as they recover and rebuild.”
