U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class James Garza, a native of Hondo, Texas, will represent the Navy at the 2025 Department of Defense Warrior Games Challenge, scheduled for July 18–26 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Garza is one of more than 250 seriously wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans set to compete in this year’s games. He will participate in archery, indoor rowing, precision air sports and wheelchair basketball during the nine-day adaptive- sports competition.
Hosted by the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the Warrior Games Challenge is a premier DOD event now celebrating its 15th anniversary. The games bring together athletes from across the military, including the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, and U.S. Special Operations Command. While the competition includes medal ceremonies, organizers emphasize that the Warrior Games primarily celebrate personal resilience, determination and the triumph of the human spirit.
This year’s event also coincides with the 250th birthday of the U.S. Navy. Navy officials noted the milestone reflects the branch’s enduring role in global security and maritime defense.
“America is a maritime nation, and for 250 years, America’s Warfighting Navy has sailed the globe in defense of freedom,” Navy officials said.
