Texas Salt Company is bringing an exciting new – and regular – event to Bandera: First Fridays.
Owners Daniel and Andrew Almand have been working with local businesses to stay open later the first Friday of each month to bring in a little nightlife for the community.
“The town closes at five every day,” Daniel said, “so the goal is to have one day a month where everything stays open later so that the locals have a chance to shop.”
“We’re also working with businesses to set up booths around our shop,” Andrew said. “I think we can fit around twenty-five on the property. Having worked the vendor markets, we know how exhausting it is to set up and tear down booths, so these vendors will have the opportunity to stay up and open until Sunday. We try to get the community as involved as possible, and Bandera has been incredibly supportive of everything we’ve done.”
Each First Friday will have a cowboy theme interwoven with the seasonal holidays; like the Fourth of July, which will be the inaugural First Friday of the year.
The patriotic holiday will have a cowboy twist, and the owners are excited to share their newest spice for the event: Dill Salt, which is paired perfectly with cocktails and beers.
Shoppers can expect nothing but fresh products at Texas Salt Company, where everything is handmade and made on the property.
“Right down to stamping the lids,” Andrew said. “We have a handpress that we use. We try to do as much as we can in-house so we can pay our employees a livable wage. Each of our ingredients are made from scratch, like our Cowboy Salt. It’s got garlic, rosemary, infusedandsmoked over pecan for an extended period of time, and it takes us about a week to crank out five-hundred pounds of that.”
“Eighty percent of our products are no more than two ingredients,” Daniel said. “We try to keep it as simple as possible.”
Keeping it simple seems to have worked well for the company, as they are now opening a second location in New Braunfels.
“Which we are hiring at,” Andrew added. “We’ve been conducting interviews this week.”
In the long run, Andrew and Daniel hope that First Fridays will bring even bigger crowds from surrounding cities.
“I’d let to get a poster of participating businesses and set them up around different cities,” Michael said. “Telling people to come out and shop at Bandera.”
