Special to the Bulletin
A feral hog management workshop hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Bexar County will be held July 15 at the AgriLife Extension office, 3355 Cherry Ridge, Suite 208.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the program running from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend, but advance registration is required by July 10.
“We encourage landowners, producers, and natural resource professionals to attend and learn more about controlling this destructive invasive species,” said Bryan Davis, AgriLife Extension agent for Bexar County. “Feral hogs continue to be a growing concern across Texas and this workshop will provide valuable information and tools.”
The workshop will include presentations from experts with the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Topics will include feral hog biology and impacts, laws and regulations related to control methods, emerging technologies, and effective trapping techniques.
Continuing education units will be available for pesticide license holders.
According to the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute, feral hogs cause an estimated $500 million in damage to Texas agriculture and property annually. They are considered one of the most prolific invasive species in the state.
