A 19-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision early Sunday, May 25, on State Highway 173, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS said the crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. when a white Chevrolet Camaro traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a blue Kia Flex head-on.
The Kia was driven by Valeri Mireles, 19, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Camaro, identified as 22-year-old Evan Mazurek, was transported to a hospital with injuries.
Authorities said Mazurek was found to be impaired at the time of the crash but was not immediately taken into custody due to his injuries.
Officials said charges of driving while intoxicated and intoxication manslaughter will be filed.
The crash remains under investigation.
