The Lower Colorado River Authority plans to award two special $100,000 community grants during its 2026 fiscal year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its grant program.
The grants will be offered in addition to the usual twice-yearly grants of up to $50,000, which support projects like improving community centers, fire stations, sports fields, and providing gear for first responders.
One $100,000 grant will be awarded after the July 2025 application period, and the second after the January 2026 period. The fiscal year runs from July 2025 through June 2026.
Since the program’s launch in October 1995, LCRA has awarded 2,137 grants totaling more than $54 million.
“We’re proud to support projects in communities throughout our service territory,” said LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson. “These two $100,000 grants recognize the thousands of grants awarded over the years and will help fund two substantial community projects.”
LCRA awards grants twice a year to tax-exempt nonprofits, including volunteer fire departments, museums, emergency responders, civic groups, libraries, local governments, schools, and hospitals. Grants are not available to individuals, for-profit entities, professional associations, social service projects, or limited- use facilities.
Applications for the July 2025 cycle open July 1 and close July 31. The second round will open in January 2026. Applications are accepted online at www.lcra.org/grants.
Applicants requesting more than $5,000 must provide matching funds of at least 20% of the project cost. Eligible projects must benefit the entire community and improve capital assets through building, renovating, or purchasing equipment.
Eligible counties include Aransas, Austin, Bandera, Bastrop, Blanco, Brown, Burleson, Burnet, Caldwell, Callahan, Cameron, Coke, Coleman, Colorado, Comal, Concho, Coryell, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, DeWitt, Dimmit, Eastland, Ector, Edwards, Fayette, Gillespie, Goliad, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hamilton, Harris, Hays, Hidalgo, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Lampasas, Lavaca, Lee, Llano, Mason, Matagorda, Maverick, McCulloch, Medina, Menard, Midland, Mills, Nolan, Nueces, Pecos, Real, San Patricio, San Saba, Schleicher, Starr, Sterling, Sutton, Taylor, Terrell, Tom Green, Travis, Upton, Uvalde, Val Verde, Waller, Washington, Wharton, Williamson, and Zavala.
