KERRVILLE — Members of the Major James Kerr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) brought their chapter year to a close Tuesday, May 27, with an International Cook-off Luncheon for Units Overseas at the Hill Country Veterans Center.
The festive luncheon featured homemade international dishes prepared by chapter members, who dressed in traditional attire from the countries they represented.
Along with food and fellowship, chapter members purchased 22 associate memberships in DAR overseas chapters.
“The luncheon was a wonderful way to end our year of service,” said Catherine Gauldin, publicity director for the Major James Kerr Chapter. “It gave members a chance to connect, enjoy each other’s cooking, and support DAR’s global efforts.”
Tonya Allen, Units Overseas Texas State Chair, served as the event’s guest speaker. She traveled from East Texas to speak about the work DAR chapters abroad are doing to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
According to the NSDAR, the organization has supported Americans living internationally since 1897 and currently includes 24 chapters in 12 countries.
Some chapters collaborate with U.S. embassies, military leaders and foreign dignitaries to foster cross-cultural ties and strengthen global partnerships.
Gauldin noted that the DAR chapter year runs from September through May, and the Major James Kerr Chapter was active throughout the term in “projects that honor American history, support educational initiatives and promote patriotism throughout community service efforts in Kerrville and in counties beyond.”
She said the chapter is already looking ahead to celebrating Flag Day on June 14 and Independence Day on July 4.
“We give back to our community to express our appreciation to the nation that we all love,” Gauldin said. “We welcome new and prospective members who want to get involved in meaningful service through the DAR.”
