A Bandera High School staff member was arrested Friday on multiple charges, including aggravated sexual assault.
Sheriff Josh Teitge said BHS administration contacted the department about the allegation, prompting an immediate criminal investigation.
Investigators interviewed the student and secured potential evidence, which led to arrest warrants for Christopher Sandoval Mata.
Officials said Mata was taken into custody around 2 p.m. Friday and booked into the Bandera County Jail.
He is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault, improper relationship between an educator and a student, and invasive visual recording.
“This is an ongoing criminal investigation and no further details or comment will be provided at this time,” Teitge said. “The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide updates if or when further events or criminal charges unfold.”
In a letter dated May 23, the Bandera Independent School District informed families that an allegation had been made involving a staff member at Bandera High School. The district said the individual had been placed on administrative leave and would not return to campus.
