Upcoming Smithsonian Exhibit Invites Local Participation Work

Bandera is honored to host the Smithsonian’s traveling exhibit in 2025, Crossroads: Changes in Rural America, June 21-July 26.

The Smithsonian exhibit focuses on topics impacting all rural areas in the United States. It is up to our community to tell our story.

Most of Bandera’s buildings are a testament to the changes in Bandera in the last century.

For the most part, Bandera’s Main Street buildings are a testament to the perseverance and resilience of its owners and current business operators to honor our past and embrace our future.

Business owners in Bandera’s Historic District are encouraged to participate by telling their story.

Sharing a picture of how your business looked in bygone days inside your business, telling a story of why you chose to open a business in Bandera.

These stories and pictures are the framework of Bandera’s history and future.

Participation is free. However, the deadline for participation is May 26. Your exhibit must be displayed beginning on June 15.

Visitors to the Main Exhibit at the Bandera Middle School will be given a simple map to encourage visitors to our downtown area.

You will be given a Smithsonian Participation notice to be placed at the entrance of your building to entice both locals and visitors to enter, learn, shop or eat.

Again, there is no fee to participate.

The Smithsonian Exhibit will be on display at the Bandera Middle School cafetorium from June 21 – July 26, during the exhibit dates.

For businesses wanting to take part and/or needing assistance, please contact Patricia Moore, [email protected], 830-796-3045.

Thank you to all the businesses that have already confirmed participation.

Patricia Moore is the Executive Director of the Bandera County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
