A Pipe Creek man died after sustaining injuries when he lost control of the sport utility vehicle he was driving on Highway 173 north of Bandera on March 29, and it rolled over in the highway’s northbound lane, investigators said.

Albert Eugene Johnson, 57, of Pipe Creek, died at University Hospital in San Antonio after being taken there for treatment following the one-vehicle, rollover accident on March 29 at about 2:40 p.m.

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety said Johnson was northbound on Highway 173 about three miles north of Bandera when for an undetermined reason, he veered off the roadway in a curve and then over-corrected his 1999 Chevrolet Blazer in response.

The Blazer rolled over as a result, coming to rest still in the northbound lane, authorities said.

The report did not indicate the type of injuries Johnson sustained.

The troopers investigating the accident said the matter remained under investigation at the time the fatality report was completed and that all the factors contributing to the mishap were unknown.

As is their practice in completing such reports, they reminded drivers to control their speed, to minimize driving distractions, to obey traffic control devices and to be sure not to drive while fatigued.
