Over 110 veterans attended the Bandera Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Memorial Day events – for free.  The Bandera American Legion Post 157 would like to publicly thank the Bandera ProRodeo Association for their decision to allow active duty military and veterans free admission.  That’s a $12 individual value and over $1,300 total investment.

But it wasn’t the dollar value that meant the most.  What was most gratifying ‑  and I wish that we could share photographs ‑ was the reaction of the military/veterans and their families as we asked for military identification and escorted them into the arena with free admission.

More than just those 110 veterans shared in the news.  Reactions ranged from surprise to pride, from smiling children and families to a taller walk by the veteran and comments about how super it was to be in Bandera!  Non-veterans nearby also added their appreciation and commented on how this was a “great deal” and a “super idea.”

As we celebrate the precious freedoms we enjoy this Independence Day, please remember to honor and thank those who are responsible for the defense of that freedom.   Let’s also celebrate the Bandera heritage of service to our nation and community.
