I fail to see what Mr. Ball is trying to accomplish by his continuing rants in the local media. I have recently spoken to some of the city officials who were involved with his Cabaret project to see if there was something I missed as things moved along. Nothing new to report. I was told Mr. Ball was determined to not comply with the need to submit proper drawings. Further it appears he could not grasp that when you remodel you have to build back to current codes. The rules never changed. The current mayor pro-tem had to rebuild to current codes made necessary because of a fire in her business kitchen area. The new museum had to abide by current codes on all the new construction. Where is all this inconsistency you claim to know about? Everyone must abide by national, state and local codes. Have your business friends contact me and air their complaint and I will personally check it out. As I stated previously, while on City Council I reached out numerous times to business owners and citizens to contact me about any issue they encountered. Not one call did I receive from a business owner.

You claim to have knowledge of secretive meetings by city officials. This has a familiar ring to it. If you have information about illegal meetings then it is your duty to report it. Maybe we can have another Texas Ranger investigation. People who know you have assured me that you are a nice man. I have no reason to doubt that but I am having trouble trying to figure out your agenda.

There is a joint effort being initiated to bring the county, city, businesses and many organizations together to help our community set economic development goals. Why not join that group so we can all work together? Lord knows we have enough negative attacks on the city, county, non-profits and individual citizens going on. Do you really want to be a part of that? I would urge you to contact Commissioner Bob Grimes or Sully Woodland if you want to get involved.

Have you ever attended a City Council meeting where you could have had your complaints heard in a public forum designed just for that purpose? You might even have learned I am a native son and not the former mayor. Same last name but no relation. Also you would know that the proposal regarding Oak Street is to make it one way to provide head in parking. Your letter gave readers the impression there was to be no parking on the hotel site. This also is false. I took it upon myself as a member of the EDC to do a survey of mostly business owners and a few citizens to get a feel of what people were feeling about the proposed hotel project and a couple other incentive ideas for consideration to attract new business. I did this on my own because I do try to make my votes in an official capacity represent what the majority desires.

I, like many others, would truly love to see the Cabaret project rekindled if at all possible. I would be glad to sit down with you face to face to discuss what can be done to make it happen. Please give me a call. My number is in the book.
