Bypass the bypass

Years ago the State of Nebraska straightened out the highway between Lincoln and Nebraska City, thereby bypassing several small communities.

The immediate result was the closing of filling stations, then restaurants, and eventually most stores, as even residents found it convenient to shop in Lincoln or Nebraska City.

In some towns the only remaining business was the Co-op grain elevator.

The Bandera County Board is discussing a route which would bypass

Bandera. I would like to caution them against Unintended Consequences. Travelers bypassing Bandera would no longer stop to visit our unique community. Residents may find the bypass makes it easier to shop in Kerrville or Boerne, rather than in Bandera. The closing of many businesses could be the unintended consequence of such an action.

Please, Board of Directors, carefully consider the consequences of your actions.
