Utopia High School’s boys cross country team finished in second place at the District 31-A Cross Country Meet at Deer Creek Camp in Medina last month, which qualified the team to take part in the regional meet this month, officials said.
In addition, Cherish Dunlap of Utopia finished in first place in the girls cross country competition, while Kyler Keeney finished in eighth place, and Wil Massa in tenth place for the boys team at the Oct. 27 competition.
All three of those Utopia competitors also will advance to the regional meet.
In addition, the Utopia Junior High School Cross Country teams performed well at their last met in October, with the boys team finishing first overall.
On the Utopia boys team, Taylor Wiekamp finished first, Jaxon Lopez finished fifth, Vijay Villy, sixth, Jett Smothers, seventh, Bradon Long, fourteenth, and Andy McNeil, eighteenth.
While the girls junior high cross country runners did not have enough competitors for a team result, individual runners performed strongly.
Kinsley Cox finished in third place for the girls, while Bailey McBeth came in seventh, Addison Bougin finished eleventh, and Chloe Matocha won twenty-sixth place.
