The Bandera Lady Bulldog Soccer team had a rough start in district play last week with games against two soccer powerhouses, Boerne and Wimberley.
The Bulldogs came up short against the Boerne Lady Greyhounds losing 10-2 at home on February 9.
Senior Halena Rios scored one of the Bulldogs’ goals in the first half. Junior Hannah Edwards with the assistance of freshman Rihanna Garza scored the final Bulldog goal in the second half.
The Bulldog defense stepped up their game in the second half, only allowing three Boerne goals.
Sophomore Jasmine Thane and junior Maci Morrison were integral to the game with an amazing 32 keeper saves between them.
Senior Courtney Dowda along with freshmen Izabel Kennedy and Jayden Mason played solid games against the Lady Greyhounds, but the Lady Bulldogs could not overcome the first half scoring of the Greyhounds.
On Friday, February 12, playing in below freezing temperatures in Wimberley, the Lady Bulldogs made a strong stand against the Wimberley Lady Texans allowing only three goals in the first half of the game.
In the second half, sophomore Mallory Powell scored Bandera’s only goal. This was not enough to counter Wimberley’s four total goals with the Bulldogs losing their second game of district play.
Sophomore Jasmine Thane had 26 saves in the box. Defensive standouts for the Bulldogs were Seniors Halena Rios and Courtney Dowda; junior Mia Ramirez and sophomore Bietzel Gonzalez.
The Bulldogs are 3-3 for the season and played the Davenport Lady Wolves on Tuesday, February 16 at Davenport. That score was not available at press time.
The Lady Bulldogs will return home on Friday, February 19 to play Canyon Lake.
